Moon Cakes

Last week was the Mid-Autmn Festival or Lantern Festival (Vietnamese: Tet Trung Thu). One of my favorite things to eat is the Moon Cake and they're only available during festival time. It's ubiquitous and can be thought of as the Asian fruitcake, except it tastes much better.

It's filled with anything from durian paste to mung bean paste or red bean paste or mixed candied nuts & fruits or lotus seed or any other types of filling. Sometimes there's a salted duck egg's yolk inside and sometimes not. Don't let the salted duck egg yolk put you off them; if you get a chance, try some with some hot tea... they're really good!
