Arena Trinket & Fishing Gear
From GnomiesWiki
After getting all of the right gear, enchantments and talents, the only thing that's left is to get those extra items that will give your twink that extra edge. I'm talking about the Arena Grand Master trinket, the Lucky Fishing Hat, and the Nat Pagle's Extreme Anglin' Boots. These items are very tough to get and some twinks will spend weeks getting them. I group all of these together because you get them all in Stranglethorn Vale (STV). Good luck if you're going for any of these!

[edit] Getting to Stranglethorn Vale:
There are essentially 3 ways to get to Stranglethorn Vale: walk there, swim from Westfall, or get a summon. :-D Getting a summon of course is the quickest and easiest way to get to STV and if you do that, just make sure that you walk up to the Gurubashi Arena and along the coast anyways to make sure that you discover everything. It's best to do this as soon as you can since you don't want to get extra XP when you're at level 19. Also explore surrounding areas a bit to make sure you discover them too. Bring a high level friend to protect you... you'll need it.
[edit] Walking to Booty Bay:
Booty Bay is located at the southern tip of the Stranglethorn Vale. You'll need to walk all the way down here for the fishing tournament or even just to get the Arena Grand Master trinket since it's a convenient staging area. There's an inn here, mailbox, flight path, and bank so you can park your twink here for some time while going after any of these items. To walk to Booty Bay, head east from Westfall into Duskwood Forest. Half way into Duskwood, take the road that splits off to the south. Once you're in Stranglethorn Vale, keep following the road all the way down until you get to Booty Bay. The mobs start at level 30 and get up to level 45 around Booty Bay. You will be killed several times unless you have someone protecting you. My advice is to strip naked and walk about half way and then die on purpose. Rez at the spirit healer by Booty Bay and you're there. If you die too far north you'll rez near Nesingwary's Expedition and will have to try again. Follow the map below:
[edit] Swimming to Booty Bay:
Swimming takes longer but you can solo without dying. Start in Westfall and swim south along the continent. There are 2 things you must keep an eye out for: 1) don't swim in the dark waters or you'll get fatigued and die and 2) swim a little bit away from the shores so you don't aggro the mobs. Once you're at Booty Bay, there's a ramp in the water that'll lead you up into town. Follow this map for the general path:
[edit] Arena Grand Master:
The Arena Grand Master trinket (increases dodge rating by 12 and gives you a shield that absorbs 750-1250 damage for 20 seconds) is the quest reward from a quest at the Gurubashi Arena. You can get it by talking to the goblin Short John Mithril at the back of the arena. He tells you that you have to collect 12 of the Arena Master trinkets and turn it in for the Arena Grand Master trinket. At level 19, the Arena Trinkets do nothing for you since you need to be at least level 35 to equip it so you'll need to just keep them all in your bag. If you're parking your twink at the arena to get this nice item, make sure you have enough room in your bag!
Short John Mithril will drop a chest at the bottom of the Gurubashi Arena every 3 hours starting at 12:00 AM server time. He'll announce it by yelling that he has some extra treasures and that he'll leave it on the arena floor for anyone to get. Then he starts walking. From the time he yells this out, you'll have approximately 1 minute before he gets down there. Once he drops the chest, he'll yell "Let the blood letting begin!" and that's the cue. Since this is an arena, everyone in there can attack you and you can attack any one else, even alliance. The exception is if they're in your group. Competition is fierce for this trinket and it may take you a few weeks to get it but it's so worth it. Short John Mithril and the areas you should explore before doing this quest are highlighted below:
[edit] Lucky Fishing Hat:
The Lucky Fishing Hat (+15 STA/+5 Fishing) is the quest reward from the fishing tournament every Sunday in Booty Bay. The fishing tournament starts at 2:00pm server time and goes until 4:00pm. You can get it by catching a rare fish called the Keefer's Angelfish. During the fishing tournament, schools of tasty fish will spawn around the south-eastern coast of Stranglethorn Vale and along the river & shore by Grom'Gol. Alliance should stick to the south-eastern coast.
To fish in the Stranglethorn Vale zone, you need to have at least 125 fishing. To raise your fishing skills, fish in Stormwind while you wait for the WSG queue. Once you get up to about 50 or so, head over to Redridge or Menethil Harbor and continue fishing there. Buy some bait to help you get your skills up faster. Once you get to at least 125 (preferably 150), then you can fish in the tournament. Even then you'll need to get some lures, such as the Aquadynamic Fish Attractor or even nightcrawlers. The Aquadynamic Fish Attractors is made from engineering. Using lures will help you from getting the message that the fish got away. When you go fishing, please bring a friend as there are a lot of horde out there as well as level 42-45 mobs and you'll need help.
You can only catch the Keefer's Angelfish from the schools of tasty fishes. Once you catch one, you can turn it in for the hat or continue fishing to see if you can get the boots or win the tournament. The turn in is at the little mechanical device called the Fishbot 5000 right outside the inn. You'll have up to 1 hour after the tournament ends to turn in your fish. Schools of tasty fish will spawn in the areas below:
[edit] Nat Pagle's Extreme Anglin' Boots:
Nat Pagle's Extreme Anglin' Boots is a reward from the fishing tournament in Booty Bay. You get the boots by catching the rare fish Brownell's Blue Striped Racer and turning it into the Fishbot 5000 in Booty Bay. For more information on the fishing tournament itself including tips to raise your fishing skill and the lures you should use, read the section above about the Lucky Fishing Hat.
Whatever you decide to do in STV for your twink you'll be spending some time there. It's a big investment of time and money and I wish you luck!
